Grooving
Grooving
Grooving
Grooving is a method that constructs uniform grooves longitudinally and transversely on concrete pavement surfaces. Using diamond blades, grooves of consistent spacing and depth are cut into the road surface to maximize drainage performance during wet conditions and improve skid resistance.
HEXACON owns the PC-4500 (540HP) specialized grooving equipment and contributes to enhancing road user safety and driving comfort through longitudinal and transverse grooving construction.
- Drainage promotion and hydroplaning prevention in wet conditions
- Improved skid resistance for driving safety
- Ice-breaking effect for winter safety improvement
- Shortened braking distance on wet surfaces
Longitudinal Grooving
A method that constructs grooves parallel to the direction of vehicle travel.
Effects of Longitudinal Grooving
Longitudinal grooving constructs grooves in the same direction as vehicle travel, greatly improving road surface drainage performance and driving stability.
- Drainage promotion in wet conditions: Rainwater is rapidly drained through longitudinal grooves, preventing hydroplaning.
- Steering stability on curves: Longitudinal grooves suppress lateral tire displacement, enhancing steering stability on curved sections.
- Ice breaking: Road surface grooves interrupt ice continuity, improving winter safety.
- Crosswind resistance: Longitudinal grooves prevent vehicle drift caused by crosswinds.
Transverse Grooving
A method that constructs grooves perpendicular to the direction of vehicle travel.
Effects of Transverse Grooving
Transverse grooving constructs grooves perpendicular to the vehicle travel direction, effectively improving braking performance and driver alertness.
- Shortened braking distance on wet surfaces: Transverse grooves break the water film between tires and road surface, securing friction during braking.
- Drowsy driving prevention: Vibration and noise generated when driving over transverse grooves alert the driver.
